Kundalini yoga (kuṇḍalinī-yoga) derives from Kundalini, defined in the tradition of tantra as energy that lies within the body, frequently at the navel or the base of the spine. In normative tantric systems, kundalini is considered to be dormant until it is activated (as by the practice of yoga) and channelled upward through the central channel in a process of spiritual perfection. The style of Kundalini yoga popularised in the West by Yogi Bhajan is quite accessible to us in the West and involves energetic breath work (eg Breath of Fire) and lots of repetitive movement to get the energy flowing in the body. I’ve enjoyed any classes I’ve managed to attend and look forward to learning more of this tradition.
