Vinyasa Yoga (or Vinyasa Flow Yoga) is a style of yoga which has evolved from Asthanga Yoga. I have trained extensively in this style of yoga with my teacher in Gort, Carol Murphy of Green Lotus Yoga ( Eoin – Can we insert a link to her page here?) since 2019. Vinyasa is, in essence, a breath-movement synchronicity. When you breath, you move, not the other way around. Each movement will take the length of your breath and, once you know the sequence, the postures flow into one another. The style loses the rigidity of the Iyengar rules of posture, being more personalised to individual body shape and capacities, gains elegance and flow from being tailored to one’s own breath rather than to a rigid count and, provided there is intelligent sequencing, allows for a natural progression from one pose to the next, opening and strengthening the body in a manner which is both safe and speaks to the body’s own intelligence.
