This is a branch of yoga established in the West by its now deceased leader, Yogi Bhajan. This can be viewed as a form of Bhakti (devotional) Yoga. Yogi Bhajan emigrated to the USA in 1968 and set up the Healthy, Happy and Holy Orginization (3HO). Essentially it is a form of Sikhism with a physical Yoga practice bolted on. It involves postures, vigorous breathing exercises and meditation (mostly combined with chanting). It is a very beautiful and invigorating practice, and if one is drawn towards the charismatic side of conventional Western religion but one finds oneself adrift from one’s religion of origin, it can provide a great deal of comfort. Some very beautiful music comes from this tradition.
